My life has been really hectic the past year or so. I found out that my husband was cheating on me with a “younger model” he had been sneaking around with. We had begin together for years; they had been together for months.
Without going too much into detail, it was a very tough breakup for everyone involved. And it really took it’s toll… I basically let my life go.
I did nothing all day. I barely moved. Just sitting on the couch, binge eating “comfort foods” like ice cream and cheese. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was depressed. And my kids were forced to just watch as I basically gave up….
I packed on pounds – a LOT of them. Even then, I had no motivation to change, no energy to go to the gym or do… anything really.
One day I woke up and decided to step on the scale I had been neglecting for a month. I was 30 lbs heavier than I had ever been.
I KNEW I had to make a change.
So I went Google and Pinterest, doing whatever I could to figure out what the newest and best home workouts were.
I wanted something that was shaking up the world, something to slap me in the face and guide me towards my recovering.
On To The Review
I wanted to explain the sort of mindset I was in when I finally discovered the Bodyboss method, before I began explaining my thoughts on the program.
The real question is whether or not the Bodyboss Method guide is worth buying, and if it was the program I needed to save me from my funk. If you haven’t by now, you should see my overall transformation to where I am today.
So Body Boss – I’ll start off with the most obvious thing – the price. It is freaking expensive! I was on a budget at the time (or rather, I wasn’t about to let myself get taken advantage of by a subpar workout guide again) so I was especially aware at the time, but the online PDF guide costs almost $50.
That was a decent chunk of cash, and I was already afraid it might be another program I drop the next day. I decided that maybe it would be worth the money in the end.
And, unfortunately, it wasn’t.
I’ll try and explain exactly why…
For starters, I wanted more than a simple PDF guide with a few images here and there of exercises. I mean, I have access to Google Images just like anyone else. I wanted to get to the MEAT of it. I wanted to be TRANSFORMED by what I was reading.
I wanted to be GUIDED! But as it turns out (I found this out later when I was venting on online workout forums) a lot of workout guides are exactly like this. Subpar. What’s more, it turns out that Bodyboss is expensive even when compared to other workout programs.
So what on earth had I spent so much money on it for?! Ugh. I was being too hasty.
Anyway, I invested in the guide and overall the information and workouts were… okay. I guess. But I was let down by the lack of overall value in the method.
I followed the workouts for about a week and a half before I just gave up. This wasn’t a simple case of me losing motivation, rather, I just found that the method was BORING and kind of hard to follow.
Again, this is all just my opinion. That said –
I don’t know if it was because the workouts weren’t anything special, or maybe I was just a little salty because it was so expensive, and I was disappointed from the get go… Either way, I found that it wasn’t for me.
My Abandoned Bodyboss Results
So yeah, I gave up after a week and a half. The guides really just weren’t exciting or intriguing in any way, really. I wanted to be motivated to keep pushing.
Honestly, what I like is a little personal touch from the person instructing me, which I just didn’t feel like I was getting from Bodyboss.
Now I would love to tell you all that I had mind-blowing results after just a week and a half… but this isn’t some late night infomercial. My results were nothing to write home about. I think I lost maybe a pound of water weight by the end.
I did manage to meet a few like-minded women online who I ended up ranting to. They told me the routine was very similar to ones they give out at the gym for free.
If only I had met them sooner …
Do the Bodyboss Workouts Work?
I don’t know. Maybe? I can’t really flat out say they had no merit. I just found that they weren’t anywhere near what I needed at the time. I was looking for something I could follow to the letter.
And while you probably (maybe) CAN follow the program to the letter and get good results… shouldn’t you be able to have some fun while you’re at it, too?
Also, I sort of think the program might be for more intermediate people. Not for busy stay-at-home mommys. You can follow it without gym equipment at least.
That said, I found the solution that I needed. A workout more geared for busy beginners, one that was WORTH THE PRICE too. I got it at www.bikinibodyworkouts.com
The BodyBoss Alternative I use and Now Recommend
I was pretty upset after the failure of the Bodyboss workout, but I was more upset with the idea of staying unhealthy and feeling fat, so I decided to once again look for a new workout. This time, I vowed that at the very least I wouldn’t spend another 50 bucks on it.
Luckily I didn’t have to :).
I was able to find a community of people that had also had negative experiences with the Bodyboss program. They gave me a recommendation that ended up changing my life.
The bikini body workouts, created by Jen Ferruggia.
Gosh! Things would have been much simpler if I had just found the Bikini Body Workouts from the get-go. Cheaper, more effective, more content.
The Bikini Body Guides come with a workout manual, free workout DVDs to use as instruction, a nutrition guide so you can plan out your meals, shopping lists, and more. You should honestly just go to her website and see what I’m talking about. The full program is only $29.99.
Bodyboss Method vs Jen’s Bikini Body Workouts
Here’s a table so you can see exactly what I’m talking about. Hard to argue with cold data.
It’s pretty clear to see how and why the Bikini Body Workouts from Jen Ferruggia are a wayyyy better deal.
I’ve been following Jen’s method for a month now and I’m actually enjoying it. I learn a little more everyday, I sweat good and the food she recommends is actually delicious.
Losing weight isn’t easy, but I can’t imagine it getting any easier than this.
All that said – I’m not trying to say that the Bodyboss method workouts are completely ineffective. I know that some people can still see some pretty fantastic results with them.
All I’m going to say is that I am not one of those people. I took that in stride, adapted, and moved on.
In a sort of twisted way, the Body boss method is how I ended up with a much better workout program, so I do owe them a bit of thanks for the new body I’m rocking.
If anyone here has any comments or concerns about the Bikini Body Workouts or the Bodyboss Method, feel free to ask them in the comments section and I’ll try and address them. One thing I won’t do is send you either guide for free.
People worked hard creating these programs, so respect their effort!
If you’re going to pull the trigger and invest in one of them, I would have to recommend the Bikini Body Workouts over Bodyboss. It’s still up to you at the end of the day, though.
UPDATE: My Before and After Results With Body Boss
I’ve gotten your emails people, relax! I know people wanted to know how I’ve been progressing.
These are my results:
After about six months, I lost a total of 50 pounds!
The first few weeks were the most rapid weight loss, and the craziest change of my mentality. I remember waking up full of energy, even before my alarm would go off. I would hop out of bed ready to take on the world.
I didn’t get brain fog halfway through the day. I had the energy to keep up with my energetic daughter. I felt more confident every time I looked in the mirror.
It got so easy I almost forgot I was “following a workout”. I just became a woman that works out. Fast forward 6 months later and I can say that I surpassed who I used to be.
It’s the best feeling of the world. It really is.
To anyone reading this, follow whatever workout works best for you. If it’s bodyboss, go for it. If it’s the bikini body workouts – trust me, you’ll love it. Of the workouts I’ve checked out, it’s the one I continuously return to.
Good luck! I hope that this review somehow managed to help you. It turned into something very different than usual, but I think this might actually help more people.
